How much money does it take to become rich? Just twenty magical coins—exactly what Rick has! And he’s ready to share them…
Fruit and Berry Seller
Rick made extra money selling fruit. They say a good farmer needs nothing but land—but that’s a lie.
A few dollars wouldn’t hurt either, especially the kind that buy life’s little pleasures. That’s why Rick hauled his harvest to town every time his orchard bore fruit, all in the pursuit of evergreen cash.
When Things Are Going Well
People eagerly bought his fruits and berries—Rick usually managed to sell an entire cart in a single day.
By evening, his pockets would be lined with a respectable sum. A few such trips to the market easily spared him the need for a lousy job. He worked hard, but for himself—and earned a decent living doing it.
Sometimes Things Don’t Go So Well
Still, Rick had his share of dark days—times when business dragged on sluggishly, if at all. He’d have to haul the same cart of fruit to the market two, sometimes even three times just to sell it. It was hardly worth the effort.
Worse yet, some of the fruit would start to spoil—he had no choice but to throw it out. After all, he couldn’t very well sell that to decent folks. Not that any fool would buy it anyway…
Young Jokers
On one of those days, when the god of commerce turns away from his followers, a group of children rushed to Rick’s stall. They asked for some fruit, and he reluctantly handed over a couple of pieces—after all, he would have to throw them out tomorrow anyway!
After consuming the treats, the children eagerly asked for more. Rick jokingly suggested they pay for a second serving, but the little ones replied that they had no money. Then one of the children declared that their parents were genuine wizards, with all sorts of fascinating objects at home, promising to bring something intriguing! Rick chuckled and agreed to a barter.
Peculiarity of Life
He was taken aback when the boy returned with a bundle of gold coins adorned with strange symbols. He had no idea what they meant; however, the barter now seemed extraordinarily advantageous to Rick. After all, the gold was indeed genuine, so what did it matter what symbols were engraved upon it?
Rick handed over the entire cart to the children and hurried off, eager to escape before their parents arrived, undoubtedly searching for the precious treasure pilfered by their beloved offspring. Some might argue it is despicable, wrong, and entirely immoral to exploit the naivety of children, and they would be a thousand times correct. Yet, life is a complex affair, and the gleam of a hefty sack of gold coins can blind even the most honest of individuals, rendering their conscience akin to that of Themis, who, as is well-known, cannot see a thing.
Damned Jester
Upon arriving home, Rick examined the “magical” coins closely. In tiny letters, each one bore the inscription: “Burn me!” Naturally, he was reluctant to simply incinerate this unexpectedly acquired treasure. Nonetheless, he tossed one coin into the fireplace.
The coin erupted into flames and vanished. Following such an unforeseen turn of events, Rick resolutely refused to burn the remaining coins. He cursed the author of the dubious instructions with scathing words and concealed the rest of the coins away.
Magical Gold
Later, while tidying up the fireplace, Rick discovered two gold coins. He could hardly believe his eyes! The owner of the magical gold had fired up the fireplace again, tossed the coins into the flames, and waited for the logs to burn down. Subsequently, Rick retrieved twice as much gold from the embers…
Now, simply confront him and demand half! If he puts up a resistance, just threaten to inform the parents of those boys, and then the parents, who are real sorcerers, will surely turn him into a garbage cat. Just wait and see—Rick will promptly surrender half, without as much as a peep!
