Fairytale maidens are often far from perfect. Delve into a book recounting their “adventures” and seize a fortune in gold!
Witch’s Forest
Encircling the Black tree Forest lie numerous villages and hamlets. The inhabitants of these settlements share a steadfast reluctance to venture deep into the woods, despite the abundance of mushrooms and berries there.
Predatory beasts are entirely absent here too! Nevertheless, the locals harbour a certain mistrust towards the enchanted forest, chiefly thanks to Mother Megera.
The Power of the Word of God
Many years ago, one old witch devoured children, practised dark magic, and led a thoroughly wicked life which made many want to burn her at the stake. One fine day, a Protestant missionary reached Megera and persuaded her to repent. The preacher was so compelling that the witch not only chose to embrace the path of light but also wished to aid other lost people in returning to the ranks of the pure and innocent.
Thus, she became the matron of a sanctuary for fairytale maidens in need of reform. Megera’s refuge gathered the most wayward girls from various tales and stories, where they had somehow sinned. Each maiden who embarked on the path of redemption was regarded by Megera as a personal triumph over evil.
The Painful Nature of Evil
Just before the arrival of a carriage with another troubled young lady, the keeper of the sanctuary would jot down her story in a book. Then, when the girl started on the path to change, she’d add a small note beside her name: “cured.” Megera saw any pull towards evil—whether it was wild behaviour, violent crimes, theft, harmful magic, or other dark habits that could break a good soul—as something like an illness that needed curing. And she was pretty good at it. In fact, every “guest” at her shelter eventually got better and found their way back to the straight and narrow.
A Rascal from the Underwater Realm
Today, four beauties are due to be brought to Megera. The little mermaid was promised to be brought in a water-filled barrel, with a warning to the sanctuary’s mistress that she cannot remain on dry land for long. She had sought help from the sea witch, who gave her legs in place of a tail, and tried to win over a prince. But, as the saying goes, it didn’t work out—His Highness simply couldn’t stand girls who smelled of fish from a mile away.
Unrest in Wonderland
Alice staged a full-blown coup in Wonderland. It was a particularly serious case, one that Mother Megera intended to handle with the utmost care.
A Libertine and a Murderer
Snow White ran away from her parents to live with a whole band of dwarfs, who could hardly believe their eyes or ears when the young beauty declared her wish to join their close-knit company. Meanwhile, Red Riding Hood, on her latest visit to Grandma’s house, served the wolf a pie laced with cyanide. The enchanted forest lost one predator, and the cold-hearted, cunning girl was sentenced to reform at Mother Megera’s sanctuary.
A Special Purpose Sanctuary
At the sanctuary of the ex-witch turned benevolent guardian, a strict daily routine is observed. Television, the internet, and other digital distractions are forbidden; only books approved by Megera are allowed.
The girls spend their days engaged in needlework, reading the Bible, and occasionally taking walks. However, they are never permitted to leave the sanctuary’s grounds, as the black magic protecting it proves to be more secure than any fence.
It is said that if one were to find Mother Megera’s book, where the stories of the fairy tale beauties are recorded, they could discover many secrets—and even grow rich. No one knows exactly how it works, but folk wisdom never lies!
