One fine day, Vito sobered up. He transformed a rundown farm into a veritable gold mine by betting on eggs!

Desolation and Nightmare

One fine day, Vito stopped drinking. Throughout his life, he had drowned his sorrows in corn whiskey, which he had distilled himself, but suddenly he decided to get his act together!

Vito’s sober lifestyle began with the farm, which had fallen into disarray. All the livestock had either run away or perished, the fields were overgrown, and the chickens… they continued to live as if nothing had happened. It seemed that if an atomic bomb were to drop on the farm, the laying hens and the big boss with the red comb would still be running around the yard.

Pigs and Company Go into the Woods

Vito tidied up the fields. Fortunately, the machinery was still operational, making it easy to manage the weeds. The owner took care of the fertilizer—he bought the best available and sowed the fields with wheat. Then Vito turned his attention to the livestock: cows, sheep, goats, horses, pigs—all of those delightful creatures he sent packing!

Animal care requires attention, but the farm owner had long forgotten how to do it. However, Vito did manage to get a dog. After all, someone had to guard the barn with the egg-laying hens…

Eggs Are the Way Forward!

Sobered from years of drinking, Vito immediately grasped a simple truth—this entire world hinges on eggs! Chicken eggs, of the highest quality, which are a pleasure to behold. They are perfect for omelets, salads, or simply on their own. They can be consumed in any form.

Every day, millions of people across the country pick up eggs, crack them open, fry or boil them, and prepare breakfast. It is delicious and nutritious! In summary, selling eggs is one of the most lucrative endeavors.

A Treasure Trove of Wisdom

Vito raised hens that laid as expected, and he generated quite a respectable profit! However, Vito wanted more. He understood that feed directly impacts the health of the hens. The owner planned to create a special menu for them, and for that, he needed a book.

For the first time in his life, Vito purchased a product of this nature! Naturally, he didn’t show it to anyone and didn’t even whisper about it to the neighbors, lest they think ill of him. You see, what kind of normal farmer reads—like he has nothing else to do!

The Great Benefits of Books 

Being somewhat illiterate, Vito struggled to formulate a diet for his beloved hens, but the book contained numerous workable options. He chose one that seemed most suitable. With a wealth of useful supplements acquired alongside the grain, the hens began to lay twice as many eggs.

Thus, Vito became even wealthier. Moreover, he acknowledged that sometimes reading books could be beneficial and, on the whole, it wasn’t such a foolish thing after all…

Feed for Golden Eggs 

Later, Vito recalled the tale of the hen that laid golden eggs. He purchased another book and read it carefully—alas, there was no hint of a special diet for that particular kind of hen. So, frustrated, the farmer took a most unimaginable step—he traveled to the nearest city and signed up for a library card. There, he was met with piles of books and months of tedious work.

In six months, Vito had almost transformed into a bookworm. When a menu idea based on minerals and golden dust finally matured in his mind, he rushed to put it into practice. Of course, it required him to splurge on a hefty chunk of gold, turned into dust on a special machine, but it was worth it.

A New Life with Golden Eggs

Vito’s hens began to lay golden eggs! Most of them were ordinary ones that thousands consumed for breakfast. But occasionally, Vito found golden ones in the nests.

The days when he wallowed in his own vomit were long gone. Now, Vito was a successful farmer and a truly wealthy man who, unlike most of his peers, simply adored books!
