The Power of the Elements

Wizard Klokus worked tirelessly, exploring the magic of nature. He was particularly fascinated by the elements, which serve as the cornerstones of the universe.

Contrary to the beliefs of the ancients, the earth does not rest upon three whales or some elephants with who knows what else! It all hinges on the elements; however, one cannot simply harness their power to control this world…

Water and Earth

Klokus attempted to work directly with the elements. He started with water and learned to stir up a storm in a glass, then in a river, and finally in the sea. He was quite pleased! Admittedly, the great wizard accidentally sank three ships, but such details are of little consequence—consider it a minor sacrifice in the name of science.

Working with earth proved to be much more complicated! Klokus tried to till the soil in the garden, but the magic of the elements played a cruel trick on him—his spell triggered an earthquake that destroyed a good portion of the city. The wizard conducted the smallest of experiments, trying to influence the earth in a flower pot, but surprises were almost always in store.

Fire and Air

Klokus endeavored to master the power of fire, and to some extent, he succeeded, although this came at the expense of three neighboring houses that burned as a result of his experiments. Of course, the wizard compensated his neighbors for the damage with heaps of gold, leaving the victims with no complaints whatsoever. Naturally, they all relocated far away, as who knows what other experiments this troublesome wizard might decide to conduct…

While attempting to harness the power of lightning, Klokus summoned a storm that made the entire city tremble for a whole week! It seemed as though all the gods had grown angry at once and wanted to drown the city in an endless downpour or incinerate it with lightning. Fortunately, after a week, the spell’s effect wore off. The townsfolk suspected who was responsible! The kind people banded together to confront the wizard, but he made a rather convincing defense, so for the first time, he was let off the hook, especially since no one was harmed.

Spirits of the Elements

Klokus understood how dangerous and unpredictable experiments with the elements could be. The wizard decided to seek out the primordial elements that lay deep beneath the earth. Ah, if only he could reach them—therein lies the power over the forces of nature!

The wizard had heard the legend of the four elemental spirits that emerged on the planet millions of years ago. Who knows where these beings came from! Perhaps the ancient gods created them, or they existed from the beginning…

Journey to the Center of the Earth
