The Story Behind Enchanted Waters
Every three years, mermaids emerge on the shore to perform a magical ritual using crystals. It is time to seize their treasures!
Hellish Drought
For thousands of years, all was calm in the underwater kingdom until a drought began. At first, no one cared about what was happening up there, in the world of humans. Who in the ocean cares about land rats that occasionally poke their noses into the underwater realm?!
Meanwhile, the sky decided not to give people a drop of rain, and this continued for several months in a row. The sun mercilessly scorched, as if it intended to slowly burn all living things. Many rivers dried up, lakes shrank, the sea level lowered, and when the towers of the castle belonging to His Majesty Triton emerged from beneath the water, everyone began to worry.
The Magical Power of the Archmage
Seeing a semblance of a city in the shallow sea, humans rushed to investigate what it was and whether there were any treasures there. King Triton’s subjects defended their home as best they could, but humans—they scuttled like cockroaches, creeping in anywhere, despite the drought, thirst, the threat of hunger, and the toothy maws of predatory fish, which fiercely defended their domains.
The lord of the underwater kingdom summoned the supreme wizard and ordered him to do something about the cursed bipeds that would soon feel at home on the ocean floor. The archmage devised a complex spell aimed directly at the sky, hoping to summon rain, or even better—a real flood that would last for several months.
The underwater kingdom will soon be drained…
The wizard cast a magical flow into the clouds, but alas, nothing came of it. The sky had no intention of yielding a drop of water. Meanwhile, the sea was slowly drying up. In some places, where once there was solid water, only puddles remained. In certain areas, bipeds began constructing homes to live closer to the life-giving moisture.
Of course, seawater is not particularly suitable for drinking, but people learned to purify it of salt. In short, His Majesty Triton’s kingdom will come to an end— it will simply be drained and then settled, with homes being built everywhere!
Three Powerful Sorceresses
The ruler of the sea kingdom ordered the search for the strongest wizards. By the time the three mermaids arrived at the palace, the supreme wizard had already retired due to his obsolescence and ineffectiveness as a magician. King Triton asked the sorceresses to arrange a flood, inundation, or rain that would last as long as needed to restore the water level in the sea to its former state.
The mermaids knew one ritual, but it had to be performed ashore. The king sent scouts, and the cunning little fish found a safe spot on a sandbank in a quiet cove.
Long Live the Flood!
Additionally, the mermaids required precious stones to focus the flows of magical energy. The king ordered his servants to provide the sorceresses with the most suitable crystals for the ritual. Thus, the three underwater witches entered the treasury of His Majesty Triton, and then the lord even allowed them to access it without special permission if it was necessary for the common good.
Having received everything they needed, the mermaids swam to that very cove, emerged on the shore, and performed the ritual. An incredibly torrential downpour began, lasting for several months. The underwater world was saved, and the mermaids were appointed supreme sorceresses. However, now the fish-tailed maidens must perform that ritual every three years to prevent the return of drought.
