A wizard named Vitis had the ability to open portals to other worlds. He traveled extensively and often encountered strange creatures. One day, he decided to visit another reality once again.

Upon opening a portal, Vitis discovered three small dragons being hunted by a massive black beast with glowing red eyes. Without hesitation, he grabbed the dragons and brought them into his world, closing the portal at the last possible moment—just in time to avoid the monster’s sharp claws!

Death to Dragons

In the kingdom of Mordran, where Vitis lived, dragons had long been extinct. The last one was hunted down and killed decades ago.

Long ago, dragons coexisted peacefully with humans. However, when King Dragomir II legalized dragon hunting, a brutal war broke out between the two species. Ultimately, humans won by sheer numbers, and dragons disappeared from the land.

A Well-Kept Secret

Vitis had no intention of revealing his newfound dragon hatchlings to anyone. He hid them in his basement.

He strictly forbade his servants from going downstairs, threatening immediate dismissal without severance pay. This warning was enough to stifle any curiosity among the household staff.

Dragons Love Apples

Vitis cared for the little dragons like a devoted parent. He fed them all kinds of treats, but their favorite food was fruit—especially apples.

To ensure a steady supply, Vitis struck a deal with a local merchant, arranging for a farmhand to deliver a crate of apples every week. From then on, the dragons always had their favorite dessert.

One day, a nosy maid could no longer resist her curiosity. While Vitis was away at a magic council meeting, she sneaked into the basement. There, she found three dragons, each the size of a large dog—one blue, one white, and one pink. Shocked, she slammed the door shut and ran upstairs, stumbling on the steps.

The next day, the farmhand arrived with a crate overflowing with apples. The maid, who knew him well, couldn’t keep the secret and spilled the story about what she had seen in the basement. By that evening, every merchant in the marketplace knew that Vitis was hiding three dragons in his home.

News traveled fast, and soon, even Vitis heard the rumors. He realized that he had to act quickly—if word reached the prefect, a squad of guards would soon arrive to take the dragons away. The creatures would likely be killed for their valuable hides, teeth, and magical glands, which granted them the ability to breathe fire, lightning, ice, and other elements.

That night, Vitis led his beloved dragons into the mountains. They climbed higher and higher until they reached a vast plateau above the clouds. The wizard carried a sack containing a powerful magical artifact—a mirror capable of greatly amplifying any spell.

A New Home in the Sky

Vitis began casting spells, using the mirror to create an entire city floating high in the sky. With its power, he conjured numerous buildings suspended in the air.

This magical city became the dragons’ new home. Before leaving, Vitis entrusted them with the mirror for safekeeping and promised to visit as often as he could.

No Dragons Here, Just an Empty Basement!

Vitis returned home just in time—officials from the prefecture had arrived and were preparing to break down his door. He let the guards in, and they rushed to inspect the basement. However, the swordsmen found nothing unusual inside.

After escorting the guests out, Vitis immediately fired the maid who had betrayed his trust. The guards had no qualms about turning her in once it became clear that she had lied to everyone about the dragons. Meanwhile, his beloved creatures lived peacefully in their floating city, which eventually grew into a vast and magnificent kingdom!
