Father and Son
Nakuto was a true samurai, well acquainted with the meaning of honor. Armed only with his path and katana, he never doubted his decision—to become a genuine warrior.
Nakuto’s father owned vast rice fields. Each year, the head of the family earned a fortune sufficient to cover all essentials and indulge in small luxuries, such as owning a castle.
Hard Times
Everything went smoothly until the gods struck the Land of the Rising Sun with a drought. Nakuto’s father was left with nothing. He had to borrow money to cover expenses and secure some means to survive.
The rice field owner planned to repay the debt the following year after selling the harvest. Surely, the gods could not afflict drought twice!
Saving His Father at All Costs
Nakuto’s father was mistaken. The gods unleashed droughts a second and third time in succession. Over these years, the family head sank so deep into debt that only one option remained—to preserve his honor by committing harakiri. Fortunately, the son convinced his father to renounce this fate.
Young Nakuto promised his father he would find a way to repay the debts. The key was to discover some treasure! Of course, it was a perilous undertaking—far more dangerous than staying home and drinking sake on his father’s money. But what could he do? A samurai has only his path and honor, and so saving his father became the purpose of his life!
In Search of the Dragon Sleeping on Gold
Nakuto set out to roam the world, hoping to unearth treasures. After several days, the brave warrior realized that wandering aimlessly one’s entire life would yield only emptiness. Nakuto had heard tales of dragons guarding legendary riches and was now determined to find one such beast eager to meet its end at the blade of a true samurai.
Our hero began seeking a dark cave where the winged guardian of gold awaited him. He traveled from village to village, asking locals whether dragons troubled them. Usually, people eyed the stranger as a madman best avoided. Understanding that no dragons lurked nearby, Nakuto simply breathed deep and continued on his way.
The Fire-Breathing Dragon
At last, luck smiled upon the samurai! Far to the east, he discovered a village regularly visited by a dragon.
The beast demanded worship and sacrifices, threatening to burn everyone otherwise. This very fate had befallen a neighboring village, which the dragon reduced to ashes and scattered charred remains.
Evil Vanquished!
Nakuto volunteered to slay the monster. The elders provided him with a guide to lead him to the lair of the fiery menace. The guide hurried back, not wishing to fall prey to the enraged creature.
The guide’s doubts proved unfounded! Nakuto killed the beast, deftly avoiding its flames—the katana’s blade pierced the dragon’s eye! Deep within the cavern, the victor found a torii gate—an entrance to another world. Naturally, he stepped into this alternate realm, hoping to find mountains of gold.
Magic of the Torii from Another World
Nakuto found himself in a realm of darkness. There was nothing around except glowing bamboo and another torii, from which treasures cascaded. Nakuto seized as much as he could carry and raced back to his father, hoping he had not yet committed harakiri.
